How to choose the right size rug for your room
3 min read
A simple guide to rug sizes for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms — and how to check the fit before you buy.
Go bigger than you think
The most common rug mistake is choosing one that is too small. A rug that floats in the middle of the floor makes a room feel cramped instead of cosy.
In a living room, aim for a rug large enough that at least the front legs of your sofa and chairs rest on it. Leave roughly 20–45 cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls.
Dining rooms and bedrooms
Under a dining table, the rug should extend about 60 cm beyond the table on every side so chairs stay on it when pulled out.
In a bedroom, place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed so you step onto something soft on both sides.
Check it in your own room
Upload a photo of your room to DifferView, drop in a rug from the catalog and resize it. Rugs follow the floor's perspective, so you can see quickly whether a round jute rug or a large rectangle suits the space.
